Our senior men's played an enthralling encounter at 2.00 in this hotly anticipated fixture between Glasgow's two clubs. Tir Conaill started the stronger and built up a three point lead in the first half but Gaels came back well to finish the half level, at 0-6 to 1-3. Although Tir Conaill scored with the first point of the second half, Gaels stormed back and scored two goals in quick succession. The game looked dead and buried with 10 minutes left, as Gaels led by 7 points but a succession of points from the returning sharpshooter Daniel Gallagher and a goal from supersub Manus Brennan took Tir Conaill level with only minutes remaining. Tir Conaill stole the lead with two minutes on the clock as Emmet McLaughlin kicked off his left foot, but Gaels pointed with their final attack from Cian Geoghegan who hit some prolific scores throughout the day, as the match finished level at 3-5 to 1-11.
Tir Conaill's ladies team were in action again yesterday against Glasgow Gaels in the first local derby of the year. Badly hit by missing players, Harps lost in this match played at Thornly Park. Glasgow Gaels fielded a strong team which were much better on the day, but the spirit shown by our ladies will no doubt stand to them in the weeks and months to come during the season.
Thanks to referee Adrian Diver who officiated in both games.
