Celtic Festival Round-Up
25 October 2010
Tir Conaill Harps were delighted to host their 5th annual women’s Celtic festival on 2nd October 2010. Despite the current economy we proudly welcomed teams from Scotland, England and Ireland, Cambridge University Camogie club, Ballygalget Camogie club from Co Down and Forth Camogie club from Edinburgh managing to field 5 teams.
Despite weather there was a great atmosphere throughout the day. There were 15 games in total with Ballygalget 1 managing to win all of their games and stay a firm top of the board throughout the tournament chasing close behind were Ballyaglget 2 and Cambridge University. Fighting for a place in the final their game ended in a win by a narrow Cambridge victory 1-5 to Ballygalget 2 0-4. The nail biting final commenced and Ballygalget A won 5-3 to 0-1 Cambridge.
There was lots of fine individual play throughout the day but the outstanding player of tournament award went to Danni Boyd of Ballygalget 1 who is new to the game yet looked as if she had played all her life.
Each player showed their competitive streak during our ‘fun’ skills part of the tournament. During the skills we held poc fada, hurl toss, piggy back race and tug of war. Skills winner went to Geraldine Hughes of Ballygalget. The tug of war proved a great success, even our chairman took part but unfortunately got beat by a bunch of camogs!! Maurice-pick your team a bit more carefully next time ha....
More action shots and ones from the night out on the Camogie Page.
