Cup Final Here We Come!
08 June 2009
For the third year in a row Tir Conaill battled with Forth Camanachd for a place on the Valerie Fraser cup final. We are delighted to report that the harps won the battle with a score line of 4-2, although the war is far from over as we once again meet Glengarry in the final.
The Harps took an early lead with a Fiona Mathie goal but Forth soon pulled one back. Orla Coughlan provided the harps 2nd putting them 1 ahead at the half way mark.
The harps looked the stronger team and Fiona put some daylight between the two teams with a cracking narrow angled goal at the start of the 2nd half. Orla added another soon after and it looked like the harps were pulling away. Forth's captain, Katie Smith (who had a cast removed from her hand the day before) had other ideas and put one away for Forth. This put them right back in the game. It looked like the Harps had sealed it with a 5th goal about 5 minutes from the end but the Forth goalie made a stunning diving save.
Hilda Dooley was the well deserved Coach's Player of the Match.
This is a busy week for the Harps and it continues with a double header against GMA at the High School (across from Gartnavel Hospital) on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. This is a must win match for both our national division team and our south division team. The Harps are sitting 2 points adrift of Glengarry in the national division and need this one to even things out. The South team are sitting 4 points clear of the pack but there is still a long way to go and GMA will be out to bag their first points of the season.
