Seniors win Davitt Cup
01 May 2009
Congratulations to our senior footballers who won the Davitt cup with a 1-10 to 1-06 win over Glasgow Gaels, at Coatbridge last night.
The game started with 2 points from captain Connor Manning. The harps were on top, but a willingness to give away silly frees allowed the Gaels to keep in touch. The pattern of the first half was one of good TCH build up, but just failing to connect with the final ball. An outstanding sideline point from new signing James Keenan put the harps one up. However, a fortunate rebound after a long range free fell at a Gaels foot, and was dispatched into the net. The half ended with our lads 2 down.
Some inspiring words from Stephen seemed to work as the harps came out all guns blazing in the second half. They pegged back the lead, and a crucial goal was struck midway through the half. As the defence defended resolutely, the superior fitness of the harps told as points by John Duggan, Jp Noonan and Cathal O'Kane sealed a sweet victory. It is just reward for the coaching team, and it can only be hoped that we transfer this early season good form into a serious championship challenge.
