East End group visit Limerick
02 March 2009
Our latest project with children in the city's east end was to take our underage hurlers and camogs on the first leg of an exchange to Limerick city where they linked with the local GAA clubs and regeneration agencies who cover the Moyross area.
It was a great experience for our young players to play hurling on grass for the first time. Indeed, after losing their opening two matches they adapted to the conditions well to go on to win their final match. The children and parents were accompanied by team manager Grace McBride, coach-Kirtsy Byrne and club Development Officer, Tommy Main.
We lined out in our 'away' colours, which was the GAA summer camp strip from last year which was presented to the children by Limerick GAA coaching officer, Noel Hartigan.
On the final day the group took in the Limerick V Dublin national hurling League match.
Sean Patrick, Robert and Liam got their hands on the Heiniken cup which was kindly brought along to the groups hotel by representatives of Munster Rugby. A tour of the Munster ground was part of the programme during the visit.
