| Senior Mens get Up and Running |
|
14 May 2010
The seniopr mens team recorded their first victory of the season, comfortably overcoming Sands MacSwineys in Coatbridge, by a score of 6-12 to 0-7.
The game began with the Harps under pressure, and the hosts went into an early lead as a result of some indiscipline on the Harps part. It was clear that this was a team still getting to know each other, as the first 20 minutes was littered with misplaced passes and bad decisions. However, a coolly slotted goal by Damien Shannon settled the players, and the overall play improved. Young tyro Micheal Doherty was causing havoc in the full forward line, and he was felled to win a penalty before half time, with the evergreen Conor Manning finishing with aplomb.
After half time, the host resorted to route one tactics, with the harps full backline coming under aerial bombardment. However, the defence kept their shape and discipline, and provided a base for the forwards to take the game away from Sands. A couple of Conor Manning goals settled the tie, and at the final whistle the team savoured a convincing win.
Scorers included Conor Manning (4-1...yes, 4-1), Damien Shannon (2-1), JP Noonan (a few points), Danny McGowan (a few more points) and Barry Doherty (just the one point). The strong squad present was also encouraging, with Stephan able to make a number of strong substitutions as the boys tired.

| Danny Hurley Memorial Tournament |
|
10 May 2010
The senior mens gaelic team would like to announce they will be holding a meomorial 7-a-side tournament for the late Danny Hurley on Saturday the 15th of May.
As many of you will know, Danny played for the Tir Conaill seniors for a couple of seasons, as well as playing for the now defunct Mulroy Gaels team. Holding a competitive Gaelic tournament was thought to be a fitting memorial for a true Gael like Daniel. The format of the tournament will mean the teams are formed on the basis of the players region, such as Donegal, Scotland etc. Also, the Mulroy Gaels former players have entered a team in an attempt to roll back the years.
The tournamnet will take place in Thornley Park, Paisley (PA2 7TR), and will kick off at 11.30am. It is hoped that as many club members will turnout for what should be a great days craic, and in order to support their home county/region in what should be a competitive tournament. The ladies seniors will also be playing a challenge game during the tournament as well.
In the evening, the Admiral Bar are hosting a special night for all club members, with ceol agus craic aplenty to be had. The trophy and prizes will also be handed out. Doors open at 7.30pm, and in order to raise some club funds, there will be a £4 cover charge on the door.
For anymore information about this event, contact Paul Doohan (pauldoohan1@gmail.com). It is hoped to see as many club members at the day as possible, in order to commemorate a true great...

| Seniors Win Davitt Cup |
|
01 May 2009
Congratulations to our senior footballers who won the Davitt cup with a 1-10 to 1-06 win over Glasgow Gaels, at Coatbridge last night.
The game started with 2 points from captain Connor Manning. The harps were on top, but a willingness to give away silly frees allowed the Gaels to keep in touch. The pattern of the first half was one of good TCH build up, but just failing to connect with the final ball. An outstanding sideline point from new signing James Keenan put the harps one up.
However, a fortunate rebound after a long range free fell at a Gaels foot, and was dispatched into the net. The half ended with our lads 2 down.
Some inspiring words from Stephen seemed to work as the harps came out all guns blazing in the second half. They pegged back the lead, and a crucial goal was struck midway through the half. As the defence defended resolutely, the superior fitness of the harps told as points by John Duggan, Jp Noonan and Cathal O'Kane sealed a sweet victory. It is just reward for the coaching team, and it can only be hoped that we transfer this early season good form into a serious championship challenge.
