5th Annual Feile na mBan

30 March 2010

Tir Conaill Harps GAC is delighted to announce the dates for the fifth annual women's Celtic sports festival, which will be held over the weekend of 1st to 3rd October 2010. The festival has raised the profile of women's gaelic sports both within the Harps club and the wider Glasgow community. The festival will include it's usual programme of camogie and ladies football tournaments, coaching workshops and not forgetting the very popular Festival Hooley.

In spite of the recession, in 2009 we welcomed six clubs from Ireland and Scotland, fielding 8 teams.  We hope to attract more teams in 2010.  In cost sensitive times we encourage all teams to book early and take advatage of low fares, room rates and the current Euro exchange rate. Further details are available from Grace McBride (camogiestars@hotmail.com).

Regular updates will also appear here.

Forth put Harps Back in Business

28 March 2010

Tir Conaill Harps would like to express our thanks to Forth Camanachd for the donation of hurls to the camogie senior team.

Although the majority of the equipment lost in the bus fire belonged to the U12s, the senior camogie team also lost their entire stock of hurls.  Forth have now put us back in business just in time for the start of the new season, with training resuming on Thursday 22nd April.

Pictured is Aisling handing over the hurls to Roisin.  Hopefully both teams will see them used in anger in the very near future.

Ceili is a Hit!

23 November 2008

The club held it's most successful ceili ever on Saturday at the Couper Institute.  The ceili is organised annually by the camogie/shinty team and has become a not-to-be-missed event.

Our thank go to St James' ceili band who had toes tapping and the floor bouncing with their usual brilliant performance.

This year we were also treated to Eamon Campbell's 'brush dance'.  As can be seen from the photo, Eamon's feet were a blur.  Not sure how we will top that next year.

The club also took the opportunity to thank the women's festival sponsor, Mick Coyle, for his support over the last three years.  It took a bit of time to coax Mick away from his tea and onto the stage, but the festival committee chair, Janice Aitken, eventually was able to pass on the club's appreciation for his support of the women's game.  Mick is usually a man of few quotable words, however on this occasion he was persuaded to give a short acceptance speech.

The camogs are already thinking about next year's ceili and will announce the venue and date in the new year.

Oh yes, and we made a few bob for the club while we were about it.
